OUR 2020 INTERNS

[Updated in 2020]

  • Phuong Uyen Nguyen | Research and Program Intern

Phuong Uyen Nguyen is currently a senior majoring in Public Health with a Concentration in Health Services Administration at San Jose State University. At her school, she is a Mental Health Ambassador and also a part of Public Health Peer Advising. For a month, she studied abroad, where she met new friends and learned about European cultures.

Phuong Uyen became an intern for ICAN to learn more about her Vietnamese community while building her skills at a non-profit organization. Currently, she works on projects such as ICAN’s CARE Registry and Census push. To determine her strengths and strengthen her weaknesses, she is also exploring different fields like data entry and marketing.

In her free time, she likes to binge-watch shows on Netflix and Hulu.

  • Nguyen Vo | Research Intern

Nguyen Vo is now a senior at San Jose State University majoring in Public Health with a concentration on Administration. She graduated from Ohlone College with an AS degree in Human Development, Social Science, and Business. Besides working with ICAN as a Volunteer Intern, she also works as a Teacher’s Assistant for PH104 (Community Health Promotion) and a Public Health Peer Advisor and at the DDS Office on the weekends to learn about admin fields. Her long-term goal is to continue studying for an MS and MD degree at UCSF or UC Berkeley, majoring in Public Health Policy and Management.

Her dream is to become a leader in the public health industry. Born and raised in Vietnam, she understands the gaps and difficulties that Vietnamese people have been going through, especially in the healthcare field. She wants to bring her knowledge to help and develop a strong community by making the healthcare system of the Vietnamese community more modern and agile, especially in removing social class discrimination in medical examinations and treatments here.

She was a Research Intern in our 2020 Summer Internship Program, but continued as a volunteer intern when the summer internship ended. Here, she has the opportunity to reach out to the Vietnamese community in San Jose, listen to and aid with what the community needs, and most importantly to help people understand the importance of public health.

  • Han-Nha Tiet | Marketing Intern

Han-Nha Tiet is a high school junior and will graduate in 2022. She is active in the clubs at her school and holds positions in a mental health club and a club that stands in solidarity with the people of Haiti.

In the summer of 2019, Han-Nha attended ICAN’s Prepping for Career workshop and was inspired to begin volunteering with ICAN. She is excited to work more with ICAN to gain experience while developing stronger connections within her community to other communities. At ICAN, Han-Nha works with the marketing team, programs team, and funds development team. She is grateful that ICAN gives its interns opportunities to work on different projects so they can learn a variety of skills.

She enjoys listening to music, reading, and architecture.

  • Cheyenne Nguyen | Marketing/Social Media Assistant

Cheyenne will be a graduate of the Fountain Valley High School Class of 2021. She interned at ICAN virtually to help give exposure to the non-profit that really aligned with the same values and morals she had. She loved posting on social media and creating new content for ICAN to help bring awareness to everything that they do.

Cheyenne gained a lot of real-world experience during this internship. As a senior in high school, most of her peers have jobs working at restaurants, grocery stores, and clothing stores but interning at ICAN taught her things that will help her in her professional career.

In her free time, she loves hanging out with her friends and family and learning new activities to do with them. She loves going to the beach, trying out new food places, and exploring new areas around her.
