WHAT IS 1000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDER?
1000 Books Before Kinder is a culturally sensitive reading program for children in our community to create and reach reading goals while also participating in cultural history lessons
WHO WE SERVE
We serve young children, specifically those preparing for kindergarten, and their families. Our program is designed to engage children in the San Jose area, particularly those from culturally diverse backgrounds, with a focus on the Vietnamese community.
WHAT WE DO
The "1000 Books Before Kinder" program aims to improve reading literacy, foster a love for books, and strengthen parent-child bonding. We offer a culturally sensitive reading program featuring:
Special events where children can get and decorate their own library cards.
Fun reading logs to help track progress.
Various arts and crafts activities.
Books are available in Vietnamese, English, and Spanish.
WHY IT MATTERS
This program is crucial because it lays a strong foundation for reading literacy at an early age, which is essential for academic success. It fosters a love for books and reading, encouraging lifelong learning. Additionally, it strengthens parent-child bonding through shared reading experiences. By offering books in both Vietnamese, English, and Spanish, we support multi-lingual education and help preserve cultural heritage, ensuring children from diverse backgrounds feel included and represented.
